Hello! My name is Laura Cartwright, and I’m a part-time dog trainer, part-time student, and full time animal lover!

I grew up in Sydney NSW, along with two golden retrievers, a golden cocker spaniel, and my horses. I then moved to Jamberoo on the NSW south coast, and lived with my aunt & uncle and their boder collie & border collie crosses (and the horses came too!). While living there, I completed a bachelor of Medical Mathematics and a Bachelor of Advanced Mathematics Honours, at University of Wollongong.

I now live in a different house in Jamberoo with the second golden cocker spaniel of my life, Barney. He is very dear to me and spends a LOT of time with me. This is because he is training to be my medical alert dog. He is a super-duper little guy who absolutely loves his work, and is definitely the smarter one out of the two of us!! Barney is a big part of the motivation behind why I decided to take up dog training, and I’m so grateful to have him in my life.

I also spent a lot of time working with horses…

As a teenager/young adult, I educated a number of young horses, and competed them for many years. It always struck me how similar a lot of the behaviours were between horses and dogs. There are definite differences in the way we train horses and dogs, but at the same time there are many similarities. Both species want to please, and thrive on clear and consistent instruction. Both also require a lot of patience, but provide an equally rewarding feeling when that patience pays off!

My vision when raising puppies…

I want to help owners and dogs get the best education they can, whilst still enjoying it as much as they can. I follow the philosophy that successful dog raising & training comes from a partnership between dog and owner, rather than the outdated idea that the owner must be the “alpha”. I aim to raise puppies which will live harmoniously together with you, allowing them to thrive within your family.
